The problem is just that. All you are getting is opinions. You are better served looking in the builds directory and figuring out what armor suits your style of build/play the best. I am also guessing that this is your 1st character since you don't know much about armor (forgive me if I am wrong). If that is the case then SHAME should descend upon your runner for helping you skip ahead.

^word. I like the tormentors mix set myself. It really is all about playing style. I carry 2 full sets and mix parts from others. All depends on the build.

Fanatics is pretty good if rangers have been messing you up in the past. My personal favorite is the tormentors because of the general armor bonus you get. The downside of that, of course, is how you get torn to pieces with holy damage. Since smiters are so rare, though, it hasn't ever really bugged me. Also, last I heard Bloodstained Boots were still broke and essentially a waste.

Yes, Bloodstained Boots are still broken, and do nothing. It's ultimately a choice between Necrotic/Tormentors, Fanatics/Bonelace, and Scar Pattern. I usually take the scar pattern myself, because every once in a while that extra energy really helps, whereas necromancers are flimsy enough that a little extra armor is rarely enough to save you. If you are looking for extra armor, though, my recommendation would be a tormentors/necrotic chest, since that's where you get hit the most, and fanatics/bonelace for the rest to minimize extra holy damage you take (it's +5 damage per piece of tormentors/necrotic worn).

Is this true? If you have full tormentors, would you take +20 damage with every holy damage attack? I thought it was only if you got hit in that one spot that you'd take +5 extra damage...

My understanding is it would be +20 if you wore the full set.
